Forestry

Forestry

Forestry is the basis of all Klabin’s activities, as it provides the Company with high-quality pine and eucalyptus wood for the production of pulp and paper, as well as generating biomass to fuel processes in its mills. Furthermore, some of the timber produced is sold to the furniture and construction markets.

Of the total area of 911,000 hectares of forests managed in units in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, 41% consist of native vegetation set aside for conservation. The Company is a pioneer in mosaic forest management – a technique that creates ecological corridors to connect native forests, helping conserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem services.

The Company’s management practices are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® certifications C022516 and C023492) and by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC/28-22-15 and PEFC/28-22-17). The work carried out by Klabin at Fazenda das Nascentes, a property that forms part of the Farofa Hills Private Nature Reserve in Santa Catarina, enabled the Company to obtain FSC® certification for three ecosystem services: biodiversity conservation (ES1), carbon sequestration and storage (ES2), and watershed services (ES3). In practice, this means that Klabin is working to monitor and maintain biodiversity in the region, protect areas against fires and illegal fishing and hunting, maintain the quality and availability of water resources, and constantly improve its knowledge of matters related to the three aforementioned ecosystem services.

Pulp

Pulp

The Company is recognized as one of the world’s leading references in pulp production, known for its strong commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

Klabin holds a leadership position as the only company in Brazil to produce and market three types of pulp, eucalyptus hardwood pulp, pine softwood pulp, and fluff pulp, consolidating a diversified, high value-added portfolio.

These pulps are produced at Ortigueira Plant (Paraná), through highly technological and sustainable industrial processes. In line with strict quality standards, this variety enables the company to meet the needs of different markets and applications, and is suitable for a wide range of segments, including tissue papers, personal hygiene products and disposable absorbents, packaging papers, printing and writing papers, and specialty uses.

Paper products

Paper products

Klabin produces paperboard and kraftliner with integrated pulp. Using a combination of short fibers (extracted from eucalyptus) and long fibers (found in pine), the Company manufactures products with excellent performance, great versatility and specific characteristics to meet each customers’ needs. The origin of the raw material is guaranteed by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC-C022516 and FSC-C023492), certification, attesting to the responsible production of forest-based products. This business unit also produces recycled paper for packaging.

Packaging

90 years in Paraná

In 1934, Klabin acquired Fazenda Monte Alegre, a property in what would later become the municipality of Telêmaco Borba, thereby laying the foundations for its forestry assets in Paraná. Years later, in 1946, the Company opened Brazil’s first integrated pulp and paper mill, which for some time produced 100% of the country’s newsprint.

45th anniversary of Parque Ecológico Klabin

The Parque Ecológico Klabin (Klabin Ecological Park - PEK) was created in Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, in the 1980s, to promote biodiversity conservation, the maintenance and rehabilitation of wild animals, species conservation, environmental education and the development of scientific research.

PEK recently obtained animal welfare certification from the Brazilian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (read more in Biodiversity). The park is home to around 120 animals of 30 different species and around 91% of its almost 10,000 hectares are made up of native forest.

45 years on the São Paulo Stock Exchange

In 1979, Klabin was listed on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (now known as B3). Since then, Klabin has proven to be a solid company for its shareholders and committed to governance, social and environmental practices. 35th anniversary of Centro de Memória Klabin

The Company’s memory is also intertwined with the history of Brazil and, as such, must be documented and preserved, serving as a resource for scientific and technological research and enabling a better understanding of the present. In 2022, Klabin’s collection was officially recognized by the National Council on Archives (Conarq) as being of public interest and significant to the history of Brazilian industrial development.
