End-to-end sustainability

Klabin strives to have a value chain that is increasingly engaged in social and environmental practices. Beyond technical and commercial responsibilities, a growing number of suppliers are annually invited to participate in the Company’s social and environmental initiatives.

For suppliers considered critical (based on factors such as transaction value with the company, frequency of purchases, supply criticality, among other criteria), a social and environmental assessment is carried out via the EcoVadis platform. This evaluation considers environmental factors alongside labor, human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement practices. Known as the Sustainable Supply Chain Management Program, this initiative encourages partners to adopt and adhere to best practices and effectively manage the potential risks of their operations. Suppliers scoring below the target average have action plans monitored annually and receive support from the program to implement recommended improvements.

A close eye on costs

In pursuit of more competitive costs, throughout 2024, Klabin’s departments and technical areas reviewed the operational, maintenance, and supply plans of the units and explored alternatives for product and service supply and efficiency gains. This process, which will continue in 2025, is essential to optimize budgeting and ensure more efficient resource management.

Wood suppliers

In addition to relying on raw materials from its own forests, Klabin purchases wood from independent producers and from partners in the Plante com a Klabin (Plant with Klabin) Program (learn more about this initiative below).

To guarantee the quality and origin of materials, the Company has a Controlled Wood Program, responsible for evaluating partner properties in relation to financial management, environmental compliance and social impacts. Initiatives to promote compliance with forest certification requirements are also carried out.

Wood used in accordance with FSC® – Forest Stewardship Council® certification (FSC-C022516 and FSC-C023492)

Preparation for EUDR

This legislation bans the importation and trade in the European Union of products derived from certain commodities – cattle, soybeans, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, wood and rubber – from forest areas cleared after December 31, 2020.

Plante com a Klabin Program

Plante com a Klabin (PCK) is a program that encourages producers to integrate forestry with other activities on their properties. In 2024, the Company received the first batch of raw material from the program and confirmed the quality of the wood harvested, reinforcing the importance of supplying seedlings and monitoring cultivation. In view of the good results, a new cycle began with partners. Despite the acquisition of new lands in Paraná through the Caetê Project, the Plante com a Klabin Program remains a strategic initiative for the Company.

In 2025, the program is expected to strengthen the integration of forestry and livestock farming, generating positive impacts for both family income and crop productivity. The intention is to identify landowners with degraded pasturelands suitable for eucalyptus plantations and present them with viable and attractive financial models.
