Logistics network
Klabin has a logistics network that integrates road, rail and maritime modes to ensure agility and safety in the transportation of wood, pulp, paper and packaging.
Road
Trucks take Klabin products all over Brazil. The vehicles are monitored to ensure the safety of the drivers and the community.
Rail
A railroad branch line connects the Ortigueira Plant in inland Paraná to the Paper and Pulp Logistics Unit in Paranaguá on the state’s coast. Some of the cargo sent by road passes through Klabin’s container terminal, which centralizes the flow of pulp and paper from the Monte Alegre and Ortigueira plants.
Maritime
Maritime transport utilizes containers and breakbulk shipping – an economical and agile option for sending products to international customers.
Logistics flexibility
The complexities of maritime logistics, intensified by recent international issues such as the Red Sea crisis and the Panama Canal drought, combined with infrastructure challenges in Brazilian ports, prompted Klabin to reassess its strategy. The goal was to maintain timely and high-quality deliveries of its products to customers worldwide.
The circumstances confirmed the flexibility and competitiveness of Klabin's logistics ecosystem, providing the Company with greater operational stability and agility in adapting to new scenarios. One of the solutions to bypass port congestion was the use of breakbulk shipping for fluff pulp and paper reels bound transportation to Europe. In this model, the products are stored directly in the ship's holds avoid congested terminals both along the Brazilian coast and at final destinations, minimizing potential delivery delays to customers. At the same time, Klabin continues to engage with ports and their personnel to improve the efficiency of container transportation.
Effective operational planning, emphasizing synergies between production and logistics, has also been crucial in ensuring that inventory levels are aligned with demand and flow capacity.
