Sustainable alternatives

Exploring multiple uses for wood components is fundamental to developing sustainable and biodegradable products and reaching new markets. Over the years, Klabin has presented significant research findings in this area, offering customers solutions that meet their needs and generate value. Learn about some of the components studied by the Company and their applications:

BIO-OIL

A fuel made from forest waste. To produce it, biomass must be subjected to high temperatures in an isolated environment with little or no oxygen. The product is mainly used as a fuel for heating and generating electricity.

LIGNIN

A natural polymer found in the cells that make up wood, responsible for making plants strong and rigid. It can be used to manufacture adhesives, rubbers and other industrial products.

MFC

Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) is a highly refined cellulose capable of increasing the strength of various materials. MFC can be used in the production of special types of paper, in building materials, in the textile industry, in cosmetics and in the production of industrial formulations.

TURPENTINE

A chemical product derived from pine trees. It can be used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries, and is also considered a renewable fuel.

Microfibrillated cellulose 

Klabin has been investing in the application of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in various areas, including printing. The goal is to expand the use of biodegradable materials, enabling innovation while maintaining the essential technical aspects of the production process.

MFC can be used as a thickner.
